I used to think that who I was, was what I did or who I knew or a collection of memories that might or might not have any bearing on reality. Is it a difficult thing to let go of all of that. In our society we thrive on labels and credentials. We live in the age of the specialist. If you're not 'good' at something or you can't be identified with a role, type or belief then who are you. Scary!

So in keeping with this spirit I make my way in the world living, loving and learning, trading some of my time for money and in the process all sorts of interesting things happen to computers. I sit with a Zen group in Liverpool, England and have been on the path now for many years. I have tried to learn from all traditions because although in my past I called myself an atheist I now appreciate what all spiritual traditions are trying to do… you begin to see the light in their message. So although I follow the teachings of Buddha I know that is just the way of pointing directly to the heart of things and there are many ways to come to this realization.

I try to live a simple life in a world of greed and speed, a challenge on most days when the results of what you do seems to become more important than how you do it. So the constant awareness of our life drifts in and out of a daydream of goals and results, victories and defeats. This is my practice, life in all its clashing colours, to find love for all sentient beings in a world where there appears on the surface to have little time for such soft sentiments. All is spirit and all is awareness, bring love; like a mindful search light on all objects of awareness in equal measure whether to our relative minds that thing is hateful or blessed. The past may haunt but it is always seen in the moment, this too is just another object of awareness, given existence in the clear light that forms reality. This is my life and my practice to dance with love in this beautiful universe to celebrate this fortunate human birth … :-)
